MANY Celebs Came Out to Celebrate Erdem’s Collab With H&M

Olivia Wilde in Valentino at the 2017 Save the Children Illumination Gala: IN or OUT?

Darlings, we realize we just got finished telling you that polka dots were a hot trend for this season, but we’re really struggling with this one:

That is simply too much for us. It’s like a clown wedding gown. Mrs. Pennywise cosplay. Give her a big red nose and be done with it.

But perhaps you feel differently. Maybe this is fun and flirty to you. Maybe to you, this looks like the right way to do whimsy and still look stylish. Maybe you’re a sucker for glitter pumps or flared sleeve cuffs. To you, this is a birthday party in dress form. Maybe. We’re surmising. Just trying to anticipate the arguments in favor of this look. Arguments that you are invited to make, starting …

Olivia Wilde’s Clown Couture:

IN or OUT?

.

…NOW!

No, really. Let’s hear it. Are we being harsh or is this not a silly-ass frock? Or should we just be a little more open about silly-ass frocks?

So many conflicted feelings bubbling up, darlings! You wouldn’t think an actress at a lingerie store opening would prompt such intensity, but you know us. We’re a little ridiculous about this sort of thing.

Now, see if you can guess why we’re so conflicted when we look at Sarah Jessica’s style choices for the evening:

If you guessed that we were all kinds of het up over her public bra and over-lacey dress, you would be absolutely correct. But did you also guess that we are in the position of having to begrudgingly admit that public bras and lace dresses are about as on point as you can get for a lingerie store opening? Do you understand how, after years of intoning self-importantly that “Good style is all about the right dress on the right lady in the right setting,” we are FORCED to admit that she did right? Even though we hate everything she’s wearing?

Oh, we are torn apart, kittens. Damn your bra, Sarah Jessica Parker.

Cute bag, though.

Australian Story: Oct 23

2017-10-21_0010.jpg

Australian Story on Monday hears from Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou, who speaks his mind after two weeks of criticism and intense speculation about his future.

Critics are calling for Postecoglou to be sacked over his high-stakes tactics and his failure to address media reports that he is going to resign after Australia’s do-or-die World Cup qualifying matches against Honduras in November.

Speaking to Australian Story, Postecoglou answers questions about his relationship with his team and the Football Federation of Australia (FFA), his strategy, and his plans after the games against Honduras. When Postecoglou was appointed coach four years ago, he quickly became the saviour of Australian football, conducting a competitive campaign at the World Cup in 2014 and winning the Asian Cup six months later, Australia’s biggest achievement in international football.

Postecoglou’s personal story, first told by Australian Story two years ago, runs parallel to the history of soccer in Australia.

He arrived with his family from Greece when he was a child, joining the soccer club of the Greek community, South Melbourne Hellas, where migrants came together for comfort and support as they made their lives in a new country. There, Ange Postecoglou had a winning career first as a player and then as a coach.

But as this Australian Story shows, Postecoglou is no stranger to controversy.

His sacking from the Australian Youth team in 2006 saw him unable to get a coaching job in Australia for a few years.

As Postecoglou again finds himself at the centre of another media storm, he is resolute and unfazed. “It’s been like this my whole career,” he tells Australian Story. “Everyone else wants me to behave a certain way and I’m just not like that.” “I’ve always done things my own way and I always will.”

He refuses to be focused on anything but the end game.

You wouldn’t read about it.

ABC News weather guy Paul Higgins joked on social media , “Damn. And I was going to wear that dress on the weather tonight!

“Had to happen sooner or later!” Jane Bunn replied.

Pop Style Opinionfest: Tom & Lorenzo Explain It All For You

Darlings, it’s another pod pourri of topics this week. A veritable smorgaspod, if you will.  We poured ourselves a whole bunch of cups of coffee, downed them, sat on the couch and then flipped on the mics, full of caffeine and high on our own self-importance, as per the uzh. Between the T Lo banter, the Project Runway recap, and the opening of our listener mailbag to get to YOUR questions, we managed to cover a lot of ground; such as…

Star Trek: Discovery and Tom’s rather extensive thoughts on how the critics and the Trekkers need to calm the hell down. This show is pretty good. And while there are definitely rough spots, that fact only manages to place it more firmly among the long roster of Star Trek shows, every single one of which had a rough start; most of which went on to become fine and fun sci-fi adventures. Peeps need to RELAX about this one and learn to enjoy it. There will be an extensive writeup on the first 6 episodes next week. Promise. Also: We cover why Tom has no interest in the Trek-adjacent homage, The Orville.

Also, we take ten minutes to wax rhapsodic over a show we’re fairly obsessed with at the moment, NBC’s The Good Place.

It is HIGHLY T Lo-recommended, and if you haven’t seen it and think you might want to start, we implore you to skip over that part of the podcast. This show is awesome, but we truly think the best way to experience it is to come into it cold, with no ideas about its premise or where it might lead.

Of course, we have plenty to say about last night’s Project Runway:

Ayana

Brandon

Kentaro

Kenya

Margarita

Michael

Opinions are spewed, not only on last night’s entries, but on each of the remaining designers and where they sit in the competition, now that we’re heading into the home stretch.

PLUS: Answers to your questions! Questions such as, “What does Tom think of the Professor Marston and the Wonder Women movie?” “Why are shoes on the red carpet always so boring and basic?” “Why does red carpet photography always look so bad?” “What does avant garde really mean, anyway?”

SO many opinions and answers, darlings! Thank you once again for all your support.

10 documentary shorts by LGBTQI filmmakers have been announced in the Love Bites initiative by ABC Arts and Screen Australia.

They will screen on iview as part of the the upcoming 40th anniversary of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in 2018.

Each team will receive $10,000 to make a 5 minute documentary, with Film Victoria providing additional production funding support for four projects.

“There could not be a better time to celebrate the extraordinary diversity that is flourishing in our Australian LGBTQI communities,” said Terese Cau, CEO of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. “The Love Bites initiative has just unleashed 10 amazing documentary teams who will bring us fresh new contemporary LGBTQI stories to enjoy as part of the 40th celebrations of Mardi Gras. We can’t wait to see the outcome!”

“Love Bites is ABC TV Arts’ contribution to a pan-ABC approach to celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Mardi Gras. We look forward to working with filmmakers in the LGBTQI community to present a suite of short documentary films that will explore the lived experiences of this rich and diverse community,” said Linda Brusasco, Acting Head of Arts at ABC TV.

“The Love Bites documentaries will invite us into the lives of the LGBTQI community and explore the incredible diversity within the broader Australian rainbow family,” said Liz Stevens, Senior Manager of Documentary at Screen Australia. “At a time when empathy and understanding is so publicly battling with fear and ignorance, the art form of documentary can really come into its own by showing reality without judgement. We look forward to seeing these stories hit screens next year.”

The funded projects are:

Beyond the Mirrorball (NSW) from producer Josh Feeney and producer/director Luke Cornish, that will ask what comes next for the over-50s generation of the LGBTQI community moving on from the disco lights of the party scene.

Club Arak (NSW) from producer Alissar Gazal and director Fadia Abboud, which will tell the story of Sydney’s original queer Arab dance party that has for 15 years created a safe space that empowered and encouraged Arabs to gather and celebrate their cultural identity.

Dances (VIC) from producer Stephanie Westwood and director Ramon Watkins – an innovative exploration of queer experiences with dating app culture, told through dance and animation.

Dani Boi (VIC) from producer Zena Bartlett and director Logan Mucha, about a provocative drag king and how radical performance art can play a role in challenging gender conformity.

Desperately Seeking Shavers (VIC) from producer Christina Radburn and writer/director Emmett Aldred, which will look at the role facial hair plays in expressing and actualising identity for Trans and gender diverse people.

FEZ (QLD) from producer Jessica Magro, executive producer Kate Paul and director Jermaine D’Vauz – a celebration of the life of Samoan-Australian entertainer Fez Faanana who represents Australia on the world stage in dazzling drag and co-founded the all-male burlesque company ‘Briefs Factory’.

Monsta Gras (NSW) from producer Jain Moralee and director Kelli Jean Drinkwater, about one of Sydney’s most legendary art parties hosted by The Glitter Militia, and the feminist political playground that redefines what it means to be queer.

Queen Biryani (NSW) from producer Kate Vinen and director Gary Paramanathan, which will tell the story of new Pakistani migrant Ali who challenges gender norms by serving up delicious South Asian cuisine through his catering company donned in glittering saris.

Same Same (NSW) from producer Lizzie Cater and writer/director Thomas Wilson-White who will draw from his own life for a documentary about growing up with gay parents, and reimagine the many possible versions of Australian families.

Wicked Women: There’s No Stopping Us Now (VIC) from producer/director Anna Brownfield, a history of the lesbian erotic magazine Wicked Women which launched in 1988 and turned lesbian Australia upside down – liberating lesbian sex for generations to come.

Nine has entered into a new international co-production model for unscripted programmes dubbed ‘6/26’.

Nine joins with France’s TF1, Germany’s Nito (part of RTL Germany) and Nordic-based MTG to hear pitches from US and international producers, to equally co-fund an initial six episodes straight-to-series.

Any subsequent series pick up would automatically trigger an order of 26 new episodes.

The sales process is to be overseen by US producer-distributor Electus.

Michael Healy, Nine Network’s director of television said, “Nine Network Australia is excited to have the opportunity to be part of the strong alliance of leading international broadcasters brought together by Electus and to work with this group to develop, produce and broadcast new formats and titles.”

Seven’s anchor Jim Wilson said, “The RLWC will be five weeks of non-stop excitement with the biggest names playing for the prize silverware in Australia, PNG and New Zealand. The eligibility rules mean overseas nations have been bolstered by genuine star power. This is not just about Australia, England and the Kiwis. Tonga, Samoa, Italy, Lebanon and 2013 Quarter Finalists, USA, have fire power to burn. The defection of Jason Taumalolo and Andrew Fifita to Tonga has given them a massive injection. Standby for the unexpected and an event the entire country can be proud of, and it’s five weeks of the very best in rugby league.”

Saul Shtein, Head of Sport, Seven Network said, “We’re delighted to be the network of this year’s Rugby League World Cup and the Women’s Rugby League World Cup. We are also delighted to have secured such an outstanding group of people who will bring both Cups to millions, not only here in Australia but around the world.”

Security has always been one of Chrome’s core principles—we constantly work to build the most secure web browser to protect our users. Two recent studies concluded that Chrome was the most secure web browser in multiple aspects of security, with high rates of catching dangerous and deceptive sites, lightning-fast patching of vulnerabilities, and multiple layers of defenses.

About a year ago, we announced that we would begin marking all sites that are not encrypted with HTTPS as “not secure” in Chrome. We wanted to help people understand when the site they're on is not secure, and at the same time, provide motivation to that site's owner to improve the security of their site. We knew this would take some time, and so we started by only marking pages without encryption that collect passwords and credit cards. In the next phase, we began showing the “not secure” warning in two additional situations: when people enter data on an HTTP page, and on all HTTP pages visited in Incognito mode.

http search

It’s only been a year, but HTTPS usage has already made some incredible progress. You can see all of this in our public Transparency Report:

  • 64 percent of Chrome traffic on Android is now protected, up from 42 percent a year ago.

  • Over 75 percent of Chrome traffic on both ChromeOS and Mac is now protected, up from 60 percent on Mac and 67 percent on Chrome OS a year ago

  • 71 of the top 100 sites on the web use HTTPS by default, up from 37 a year ago

We’re also excited to see HTTPS usage increasing around the world. For example, we’ve seen HTTPS usage surge recently in Japan; large sites like Rakuten, Cookpad, Ameblo, and Yahoo Japan all made major headway towards HTTPS in 2017. Because of this, we’ve seen HTTPS in Japan surge from 31 percent to 55 percent in the last year, measured via Chrome on Windows. We see similar upward trends in other regions—HTTPS is up from 50 percent to 66 percent in Brazil, and 59 percent to 73 percent in the U.S.!

Ongoing efforts to bring encryption to everyone

To help site owners migrate (or originally create!) their sites on HTTPS, we want to make sure the process is as simple and cheap as possible. Let’s Encrypt is a free and automated certificate authority that makes securing your website cheap and easy. Google Chrome remains a Platinum sponsor of Let’s Encrypt in 2017, and has committed to continue that support next year.

Google also recently announced managed SSL for Google App Engine, and has started securing entire top-level Google domains like .foo and .dev by default with HSTS. These advances help make HTTPS automatic and painless, to make sure we’re moving towards a web that’s secure by default.

HTTPS is easier and cheaper than ever before, and it enables both the best performance the web offers and powerful new features that are too sensitive for HTTP. There’s never been a better time to migrate! Developers, check out our set-up guides to get started.

Gabrielle Union in Ports 1961 at the Free Library of Philadelphia Book Signing

Gabrielle Union attends her “We’re Going to Need More Wine: Stories That Are Funny, Complicated, and True” book signing and lecture at the Free Library in Philadelphia, PA.

What’s a celeb gal to wear when she gets invited to Philly to speak at the library, darlings?

We’re going to go out on a limb and suggest that the answer to the question is, “Not that, girl. Not that.”

To be fair, the top is interesting. It would need a lot of help in the styling in order to look like a stylish garment and not a bunch of dishtowels stitched together, but it’s just different enough to intrigue us with possibilities. Said possibilities do not, however, include those pants in any way. They are SATAN pants and should be doused in holy water, torn apart by a pack of rabid wolves, and then burned under the light of a full moon. They’re that bad.

Gorgeous cover, though.

Style File: Danielle Brooks Works Those Fall Colors

This past Fashion Week, we sat across from Miss Danielle at Christian Siriano’s runway show. It was the first time we’d seen her in person and darlings, that girl glows. She’s got real star quality and she’s incredibly striking in person. She was sitting next to Leslie Jones, who tends to suck up all the oxygen in a room, but we couldn’t take our eyes off her.

Which tends to render a lot of her red carpetry disappointing in context. Having seen her in person, we don’t think she’s quite managed to maximize her red carpetry to its best effect.

Danielle Brooks attends Hearst Magazines’ Unbound Access MagFront in New York City in Premme.

To be fair, this is totally good-on-paper. Love the shape/style for her, and the color looks amazing. Maybe the black pumps weren’t the most exciting choice in the world, but it was something of a business-like event, so it makes a certain amount of sense. The problem is that a satiny coat dress is simply never going to show up on a step-and-repeat looking fresh as a daisy and picture-ready. It doesn’t help that the finishing/fit aren’t so hot.

Danielle Brooks attends Daniel E. Straus & CareOne Starry Night Masquerade for Puerto Rico in New York City in Christian Siriano.

We’ll give her this: She definitely works the seasonal color better than a whole lot of other celeb-gals. Girlfriend’s clearly in an autumn kinda mood.

This isn’t going to win any design competitions, but it’s cute, sexy and looks great on her. The choice of black pumps bug once again. Bronze sandals would’ve been perfect. And we’re not sure which way to go on this, but we definitely think a piece of statement jewelry would be a big help. Hoops would be our first choice, but a cocktail ring might work too. Some day, brooches will lose their granny undertones and become chic again, darlings. It is on that day that we will feel comfortable recommending them (because this dress pretty much screams for one).
