Blake Lively Can’t/Won’t Stop

$

0

She’s worn so many outfits in front of the cameras this week that we’re finding it difficult to keep up with them all. This is the second outfit she wore to her screening:

Because of course she would.

We’re gonna be sneering bitches here and note that she chose possibly the least interesting, least thoughtful design from a house that’s largely considered to be one of the more intellectual at the moment, in the world of fashion. It’s times like these we bemoan the fact that both “basic” and “thirsty” have been driven into the ground with overuse. Because sometimes, no other words will suffice.

Molly Ringwald's experiences with Harvey Weinstein were, she says, more a matter of bad taste than bad behavior. But that can't be said about the rest of Hollywood when she was a career-on-fire young actress fueled by her success in the films of John Hughes.

Olivia Wilde is Chanel-Confused at the Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Women’s Filmmaker Program Luncheon

Miss Olivia, your ensemble confuses us. Judging by your expression (if not your hair), you are in something of a confused state yourself.

This is what happens when Alexa is down and you can’t hear the weather report.

A heavy tweed jacket, a crop top, a sequined skirt, and sandals? Sweetie, someone’s fucking with you. Go home and put on a pair of jeans or something. Also? Your bag’s kind of ugly.

It seems like Chanel is currently not very red carpet-friendly, going by the oddness of some of these looks.

10 things you can do with your new Pixel 2

$
0
0

It’s here! Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL hit shelves today in the U.S. Here’s a few things you can do with your Pixel 2, right out of the box.

1. Transfer your stuff from your old phone in less than 10 minutes—photos, videos, music, contacts, calendar events, apps, messages, and more. Just plug in the the cord and follow the simple instructions on the screen to make the switch. If you need help, there’s a team available 24/7 to talk you through it.

2. Say cheese! Pixel 2 has the highest-rated smartphone camera ever, with a DxOMark Mobile score of 98. Take brilliant photos in any light, and play around with new exposure controls and features like Smartburst, which takes a rapid-fire sequence of shots. Get motion photos with every shot. Pixel 2 also comes with incredible video stabilization, thanks to a combination of both optical and electronic image stabilization.

×

3. Focus. New portrait mode in the Pixel 2 front and rear cameras gives you crisp, beautiful portraits and selfies with a gorgeous background blur (on both Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL). For more on portrait mode, including some tips for how to take the best portraits, see this post.

portrait mode

4. Get unlimited storage for all your memories. All Pixel 2 users get free unlimited storage in the highest resolution for all of the photos and videos taken on your Pixel with Google Photos.

5. Search what you see with Google Lens in Google Photos. With this preview, just for Pixel 2 users, you can learn about the world around you and get things done. Save phone numbers and email addresses right to your contacts; learn more about landmarks, artwork, books, movies, music albums, and video games; or copy and share URLs from posters.

google lens gif

6. Just squeeze the sides of your phone, say “Ok Google,” or long press the Home button to call on your Google Assistant for help finding answers and getting things done. The Google Assistant understands you, so you don’t have to edit the text messages you dictate. Ask to play a song on Google Play Music, YouTube Music, or Spotify. Or control your phone by saying “turn on night light, "do not disturb” or "change my ringtone" and your Google Assistant will make it happen—no need to dig into settings.

7. Get big entertainment wherever you go. Pixel 2 comes with a razor-sharp display and dual front-facing stereo speakers for crystal-clear sound. It also delivers high quality audio through the new USB-C headphone port and through the updated, hi-fi Bluetooth support. With Fast Pair, you can quickly and easily set up compatible wireless headphones with just a tap.

8. See the important stuff at a glance. With Always-On-Display, you can see the time and notifications without waking up your phone.

9. Name that tune. On your Always-On-Display, the Now Playing feature will show you song and artist info for music playing around you. This works entirely on the device, so no audio is sent to Google.

10. Play well with others. Pixel is made to work seamlessly with your other Google devices. Say “Ok Google, play recommended videos on the TV” and your Assistant helps you keep watching on Chromecast without missing a beat. Or ask your Assistant on Google Home to “find my phone” to hear it ring and find its last location. We’re adding new features all the time, and as the rest of our hardware family hits stores this fall, your Pixel will work with those too.

On her friends expecting her to “handle it” in real life just like her character Olivia Pope: “It happens All. The. Time. I mean, part of it is because they know I can connect them to Judy Smith, [the crisis manager] who the role is based on. But people call me to say, ‘I have this problem. Can I talk to you about it?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t even want to know! Just skip over me!’ But I know secrets.”

On how being politically minded: “I have to dip in and dip out, because it suffocates me. Like, I become unable to function. So it’s a tricky balance between staying aware and also staying connected to a sense of hope and productivity and showing up for life.”

On her beauty indulgence: “Massages. I love them because they fall in that in-between for me: half beauty, half wellness. It’s something I do because I’m in heels a lot and I work really long hours. And I have a lot of pressures in my life. So massages are a good way for me to maintain my health and wellness, but also I feel like I’m doing something indulgent. And I’m a deep-tissue girl. I ask for the strongest massage therapist. Unravel me. Get in there.”

Jennifer Connelly Did Right With Louis Vuitton at BUILD Series

$

We don’t know how she managed it, but Miss Jennifer appears to have cracked the Louis Vuitton code. This is the second LV look she sported this week that doesn’t make us roll our eyes are harrumph in righteous indignation.

Granted, there’s still a little bit of goofiness to be found. We’ve mostly come around on those boots, but they never stopped looking huge, heavy and clunky to us. She’s got a knack for making them work, but other LV muses like Alicia Vikander and Michelle Williams have struggled to make them look unridiculous.

The skirt’s really great, but the entire top half does nothing for it. We know she’s a gal who loves to goth it up in all-black ensembles, but that skirt could’ve used a top with some contrast, if not structure, like a collar and buttons. The sheer sweater and public bra are basic.

Still, despite the quibbles, our feelings about this look are mostly positive. We’re grading on an enormous curve, though.

El Dorado International Airport is Colombia’s main air terminal, and one the busiest and most modern in all of Latin America. A structure spanning hundreds of thousands of square feet, it receives more than 23 million passengers and over five hundred thousand tons of cargo a year.

Focusing on the security agents that watch over El Dorado 24 hours a day. They are highly trained individuals who work as a team to resolve high-risk situations that arise at any moment. Each day is different and at any given time they might find themselves in the middle of a crime scene.

The Sixth Annual Australians in Film Awards took place on Wednesday is Los Angeles and current headlines were also the talking point.

Nine has picked up Australian rights to a New Zealand-Danish co-production, Straight Forward.

The 8 part series, to be co-created by Screentime New Zealand and Banijay-owned Mastiff Denmark is created John Banas (Blue Heelers, City Homicide, All Saints) and will film in Queenstown and Copenhagen.

Described as a mix of crime caper and a voyage of discovery, it will centre around a Danish woman who attempts to leave her criminal past behind her by moving to a small New Zealand town to go straight.

Producers are Philly de Lacey, Riccardo Pellizzeri, and Bridget Bourke at Screentime NZ, and Line Funch and Mia Marie Borup at Mastiff, Denmark.

Takis Candilis, Head of Scripted at Banijay Group, said, “This is a compelling story that delivers an enticing and unusual blend of New Zealand and Scandinavian narrative and will have wide appeal to viewers around the world. We are very pleased to see such like-minded partners on board at the outset and to have three Banijay Group production companies working seamlessly together to create a true international co-production.”

Nine has confirmed Bite Club and Underbelly Files: Chopper as 2018 dramas.

Elle Fanning, Jude Law and Rebecca Hall on the Set of Woody Allen’s New Movie

We’ve already featured Elle in her little preppy Lolita costume, but this is the first time we’re seeing Jude and Rebecca in costume.

Judging by his look, we suppose Jude is the inevitable Woody stand-in character. Rebecca’s costume is pretty great, actually. Nothing like an old-school, bright yellow rain slicker to brighten up a look. It looks surprisingly great with a navy skirt and white boots.

In other Woody news, he opened his mouth and gave an opinion on the Weinstein scandal, cautioning against a “witch hunt,” which is an almost shockingly dumb and un-self-aware thing for him to say. We wonder if the rapid foundational shift in Hollywood right now is going to have an effect on this film’s reception. The public seems primed to reject him right now. And actors who choose to work with him – especially those who spoke out against Weinstein – are going to find it harder and harder to justify.

Then again, this whole thing could blow over. Mel Gibson got nominated for an Oscar last year.

Australia’s child brides was a 12 months battle to get to air, requiring exhaustive FOIs and then further legal challenges to expose what is happening. Bryan and Megan drove it from start to end with help from 7 News colleagues across three states.

“Sunday Night’s Matt Doran spent eight months working with the US state and federal authorities to expose the heinous child sex slavery operation in Haiti. Matt went undercover to get inside the centre of the dangerous cartel. This extraordinary investigation culminating in a dramatic high seas sting, bringing down the human trafficking syndicate. More importantly his personal crusade was instrumental in the direct rescue of 30 children.”

“It’s sumptuous, home-style food
 but we wear that proudly.”

fff_ep_01_day_02_0381.jpg

“I’m not going to lie,” Tara McWilliams tells me.

“One of our biggest challenges has been to try and be original with the format, the challenges we have, and the content.”

As Executive Producer of Nine’s Family Food Fight, an original format from Endemol Shine Australia, there is a lot riding on her shoulders.

“There will definitely be comparisons where people say ‘We’ve seen that before.’ So we’re obviously doing a new twist or a new take on something that you may have seen before.

“But we think we’ve managed to come up with some new format beats that you haven’t seen before.”

As promos indicate there’s plenty of colour and character from the show’s six families, who specialise in cuisines from Italy, Greece, Vietnam, Lebanon and Australia (x2).

fff_ep_01_day_02_1253.jpg

Filmed at Melbourne’s Showgrounds (adjacent to that other TV kitchen), there are cooking challenges, eliminations, off-site challenges and a relay. To create a point of difference Family Food Fight aims for a lighter, fun tone whilst serving up hearty, accessible food.

“It’s sumptuous, home-style, bistro-type food. It’s not high-end food you will find in a hatted restaurant. It’s not food made by top chefs. It’s food where you will be thinking ‘I wish I was at their dinner table,'” she explains.

“You will think ‘I could actually cook that’ while sitting on your couch, salivating.

“But we wear that proudly. We like that it’s what separates us from the other shows. And we like that it’s food made from love. They are families calling on their heritage, and what their parents have taught them.

“We’re coming in a bit late to the food game, no question. So what’s going to keep people’s interest in watching another cooking show is that it had to be really different.

“It’s not malicious, it’s not mean-spirited. It’s high-pressured moments where you see families butting heads. There are stronger personalities trying to dominate. Everyone has an opinion. There are some families with 4 alpha-personalities all trying to take control in the kitchen.

“You can get away with speaking to your family in ways that you can’t speak to anyone else. Then minutes later it means nothing –it’s all heart and love again.”

fff_ep_01_day_02_0485.jpg

There are 4 judges, Matt Moran (Paddock to Plate, The Great Australian Bake Off), Tom Parker-Bowles (The Hot Plate), Hayden Quinn (MasterChef Australia, Surfing the Menu) and Anna Polyviou (MasterChef Australia). During challenges they watch on through monitors to see how contestants cope.

“To me that’s where some of the best viewing comes in,” McWilliams explains.

“You are seeing the judges unfiltered, speaking their minds and commenting on the action. When they go back to judge the contestant their relationship is probably deeper than other shows, because they are seeing everything warts and all.

“What I love about it is you are seeing them react. It’s not scripted or having to keep up a façade in front of the contestants.”

The cultural aspect is seeking to be one of the show’s proudest attributes. During casting it became obvious to McWilliams that for Asian, Middle Eastern & European families, food is what brings them together. Families with Australian heritage tended to gather over sport, or drinks, or maybe the BBQ.

Family Food Fight will highlight cultural traditions as much as cuisine, in the middle of its TV competition for a $100,000 prize.

“We genuinely have families where the recipes have been handed down to them, rather than being fans of cooking shows. It’s so much a part of who they are,” McWilliams adds.

“The Italians and the Greeks were ‘friendly fire’ as to who cooked better, but there was so much love there.

“Everyone loves the Lebanese sisters. Their love for life is infectious. They are so proud of their faith and their culture. The minute I met them I couldn’t stop smiling. They were joyous.

“And I thought ‘If I’m feeling this way and their food is amazing, the Australian audience will as well.’”

Family Food Fight begins 7:30pm Monday October 30 on Nine.

Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program Red Carpet Rundown

A whole bunch of stylish famous women came out to pose for pictures, have a little nosh, and talk about women in filmaking, darlings. We featured a few of the attendees for spotlight posts, but now it’s time to let these ladies be on their way, fully assessed and judged by us. Join us, won’t you? In judging their clothes, we mean.

Cynthia Nixon

Mmm. The basic (and we do mean basic) shape is fine for her, but she doesn’t strike us as a “big ruffle running down the front” kind of gal.

Grace Gummer

Love the jacket, hate the jeans. We’re not as enraged by ripped jeans as some might get, but we do think they should be used sparingly on the red carpet.

Jennifer Morrison

Awkward and over-styled.

Kyra Sedgwick

Love the skirt and the pumps, not so in love with the sweater or the long necklace. A belt would have helped.

Natasha Lyonne

We would expect no different from her. In a way, you’ve gotta respect a lady who can show up at a Chanel-sponsored (and styled) event looking like this.

Rachel Weisz

The dress is standard Chanel, but the tights seem a little heavy for it.

Rebecca Hall

Girl, you had us until we got to the Bowie boots. Not that we don’t love a sparkly pair of Bowie boots, but they really don’t go with the rest of the outfit at all.

Zosia Mamet

We’re surprised to find ourselves admitting that we love this on her. It’s an overdone design and the shapes are vaguely awkward, but she’s absolutely the right woman for this look. Even the shoes, which would normally bug, seem just right here. Sometimes a weird outfit needs a weird girl to make it work.

Granted, that coat’s straight-up chic, but the rest of it takes a special gal.
