Lily James in Saloni at the “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” Stockholm Premiere

Why Miss Lily. We barely recognized you, dear. Have we opted to ditch the Keira Knightley drag?

We suppose it makes sense. This is not the film tour for her normal brand of princessy romanticism. On the other hand, we’re not sure we love this turn toward va-va-voom. Nothing wrong with a gal getting her sexy on, but this sort of old-school version doesn’t seem like her best option. We can’t say the hair and makeup look bad, but we’re not loving the dress at all. That ruffle is awful.

Keanu Reeves at the”Siberia” New York Premiere

And now for a change of pace. We figure we’ve given you a decent dosage of huge, strapping, charming men in summer suits this week (and truth be told, there’s more Rock in the pipeline, which sounds like a sexual term but in this case is only one tangentially), so to switch things up and amuse all your bouches, here’s sweaty Keanu, not really caring:

Oof.

Look, we get that this sort of thing isn’t his bag, but he literally looks like he’s in the throes of a panic attack here. Publicists are better off finding other ways to let him sell his wares. Get him off the red carpet.

When you pause a trailer halfway through because it feels like it’s been going on forever, you can rest assured that no more time, money or attention need be further paid to it. That looks positively lifeless.

Taylor Swift for Harper’s Bazaar Magazine

Taylor Swift covers the August 2018 issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine photographed by Alexi Lubomirski and styled by Joanna Hillman.

In the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Taylor Swift channels Pattie Boyd, the celebrated beauty who inspired songs by George Harrison and Eric Clapton—and Taylor Swift. Boyd opens up to Swift about falling in love, surviving Beatlemania, and what it was really like being married to two of rock ’n’ roll’s biggest legends, and the two talk about songwriting, muses, and more.

On her connection to Pattie: “We’re both women whose lives have been deeply influenced by songs and songwriting. I stand on one side of it, and you [Pattie Boyd] on the other.”

On finding moments of inspiration: “There are definitely moments when it’s like this cloud of an idea comes and just lands in front of your face, and you reach up and grab it. A lot of songwriting is things you learn, structure, and cultivating that skill, and knowing how to craft a song. But there are mystical, magical moments, inexplicable moments when an idea that is fully formed just pops into your head. And that’s the purest part of my job. It can get complicated on every other level, but the songwriting is still the same uncomplicated process it was when I was 12 years old writing songs in my room.”

On muses: “I don’t know what it is that makes some people really creatively inspiring. There have been people I’ve spent a lot of time with who I just couldn’t write about… It’s just that some people come into your life and they have this effect on you.”

On how Pattie inspires her future self: “I would love to look back on my life with the same clarity, wisdom, and peace that you [Pattie] seem to have.”

No time for foreplay, kittens! Let’s get down to brass tacks!

DRAMA SERIES
The Americans
The Crown
Game of Thrones
The Handmaid’s Tale
Stranger Things
This Is Us
Westworld

No to the last four on this list. It’s a tough pick, but we think The Americans probably deserves its victory lap.

LEAD ACTOR, DRAMA
Jason Bateman, Ozark
Sterling K. Brown, This Is Us
Ed Harris, Westworld
Matthew Rhys, The Americans
Milo Ventimiglia, This Is Us
Jeffrey Wright, Westworld

Again, the only one that appeals to us here is Matthew Rhys – and we weren’t even following the show all that hard in the end. But the Westworld guys were wasted this season and This is Us is over-rewarded.

LEAD ACTRESS, DRAMA
Claire Foy, The Crown
Sandra Oh, Killing Eve
Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black
Elisabeth Moss, The Handmaid’s Tale
Evan Rachel Wood, Westworld
Keri Russell, The Americans

Once again, we’re inclined to predict The Americans’ Keri Russell, but as much as we loved Claire Foy and Tatiana Maslany, we have to say we’d pick Sandra Oh, who’s honestly one of the best actors in television, in our opinion.

COMEDY SERIES
Atlanta
Barry
Black-ish
Curb Your Enthusiasm
GLOW
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Silicon Valley
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

GLOW GLOW GLOW

We will accept no substitutes.

LEAD ACTOR, COMEDY
Anthony Anderson, Black-ish
Ted Danson, The Good Place
Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm
Donald Glover, Atlanta
Bill Hader, Barry
William H. Macy, Shameless

Pass. We haven’t seen enough of the work to judge, except for Ted Danson and we tend to think he’s a long shot simply for being one of the most lauded actors in TV history.

LEAD ACTRESS, COMEDY
Pamela Adlon, Better Things
Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Allison Janney, Mom
Issa Rae, Insecure
Tracee Ellis Ross, Black-ish
Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie

Ditto. This just wasn’t our year to follow comedies religiously, it seemes. We’ve seen almost everyone on this list, but not enough to have an opinion as to who’s the best.

LIMITED SERIES
The Alienist
The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story
Genius: Picasso
Godless
Patrick Melrose

We’re inclined to split the vote between Melrose and Versace, even though we had issues with both. If you threatened to set our closets on fire, we suppose we’d have to pick the Versace one.

LEAD ACTRESS, LIMITED SERIES OR MOVIE
Jessica Biel, The Sinner
Laura Dern, The Tale
Michelle Dockery, Godless
Elisabeth Moss, Top of the Lake: China Girl
Edie Falco, Law and Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders
Regina King, Seven Seconds
Sarah Paulson, American Horror Story: Cult

Laura Dern, but we fully admit that we stan and also that we haven’t seen half the others.

LEAD ACTOR, LIMITED SERIES OR MOVIE
Antonio Banderas, Genius: Picasso
Darren Criss, The Assassination of Gianni Versace
Benedict Cumberbatch, Patrick Melrose
Jeff Daniels, The Looming Tower
John Legend, Jesus Christ Superstar; Live in Concert
Jesse Plemons, U.S.S. Callister: Black Mirror

We’re THRILLED that Jesse Plemons got a nod for that supremely creepy, but also somewhat hilarious performance. As much as we were impressed with Darren Criss and as much as we bitched about Patrick Melrose, we think Cumberbatch is probably a likely win.

REALITY COMPETITION SERIES
The Amazing Race
American Ninja Warrior
Project Runway
RuPaul’s Drag Race
Top Chef
The Voice

Drag Race, of course.

VARIETY TALK SERIES
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee
Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
The Late Late Show with James Corden
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Pass. We watch none of them.

VARIETY SKETCH SERIES
At Home with Amy Sedaris
Drunk History
I Love You, America
Portlandia
Saturday Night Live
Tracey Ullman’s Show

We’re partial to Amy Sedaris although we think she’s a long shot.

$

We believe that measurement you can trust is critical for brands trying to understand the impact of their marketing. But as the customer journey has become more complex, measurement has become increasingly challenging. And while Google strives to build great solutions, some marketers prefer to rely on third-party measurement solutions.

That’s why we’re announcing Google Measurement Partners, a program that brings together new and existing partnerships to offer brands a variety of options to measure their advertising media.

The program is launching with 20+ verified partners across seven specializations: viewability, reach, brand safety, brand lift, sales lift, app attribution, and marketing mix modeling. Partners offer various solutions that work across Google advertising products, including Google Marketing Platform (including Display & Video 360 and Search Ads 360), Google Ads, YouTube, and more. Existing partner programs like App Attribution and Marketing Mix Modeling are now included in Google Measurement Partners.

Our launch partners are recognized leaders within their focus areas and provide solutions widely used by the industry. They meet rigorous standards for accuracy and use reliable methodologies to measure KPIs that matter for marketers. And we work closely with them to ensure the solutions respect user privacy.

With trust and transparency at its foundation, Measurement Partners continues our commitment to providing both quality and choice when it comes to measuring performance and helping marketers better understand their customers. Alongside our partners, we’ll keep working to establish commonly accepted standards and advanced measurement solutions that help raise the bar for the industry.

How to prepare for the cloud worker era

$
0
0

The cloud has fundamentally transformed the world around us. In our personal lives, we stream media, order food, schedule transportation, and stay in touch with friends and family across devices. The cloud has fundamentally transformed the world around us. At work, enterprise developers like Cisco, Adobe, Citrix and VMware have redefined how we get our jobs done, making data and apps easily accessible when and where they’re needed. We call this the era of the cloud worker.

Today, employees expect access to the information and services they need without the barriers of legacy tools. Managers and admins want to move away from administrative tasks, like managing devices, and focus more on what has the most potential for real value creation.

A recent study we commissioned with Forrester found that one in four workers in today’s enterprises are already cloud workers. They spend, on average, 4.6 hours working in browser-based business apps across multiple devices, and regard the freedom to access company resources from any location as fundamental to their work/life balance. Additionally, the quantity of cloud-based apps businesses rely on is only increasing. In 2018 about 53 percent of apps are in the cloud. However, by 2020 it’s estimated that figure will be above 80 percent.

This increase in cloud adoption has made many businesses rethink the technology and tools they need to ensure their workforce is effective. Office workers are no longer sitting exclusively behind desks. Field teams need real-time connectivity when they’re working remotely or interacting with customers. Employees are increasingly on the move, and they expect their apps and devices to be as mobile and flexible as their workstyle. In fact, 77 percent say they prefer technologies that give them the freedom to choose how and where to get their work done.

At the same time, IT organizations entrusted with managing devices, browsers, and apps are rethinking how to best serve the needs of a cloud-centric workforce. They need reliable and secure tools and devices that give their users the flexibility they need while at the same time being simple for IT to manage and maintain.

At Google, we’ve found that cloud-native devices like Chromebooks not only increase employee collaboration and productivity, but also decrease IT support hours and operational overhead. For example, take device deployment and provisioning. At Google, we’ve found that it takes about 33 minutes for an inventory tech to prepare a Chrome OS machine to be deployed to an end user. For Windows devices, we’ve found it typically takes 2 hours and 21 minutes, and for macOS it takes 2 hours and 23 minutes.

Device deployment and provisioning time

We’ve also found that we receive two to four times more support requests with macOS and Windows devices that we do with Chrome OS. Using cloud-first tools like Chromebooks can translate into substantial support savings over time.

ChromeOS Support Request Comparison

As the cloud-connected workplace continues to evolve, and an increasing number of employees transition from knowledge workers to cloud workers, selecting the right tools should be top of mind. The question to ask is, in the age of cloud worker, how can you best provide employees with technology that will improve their experience and create better results for your business?

To learn more about how you can prepare for the era of the cloud worker, register for Forrester’s Cloud Worker webinar, and explore resources on our website. For those of you attending NEXT ‘18, we’ll be hosting a Cloud Worker Showcase where you can meet with specialists, interact with demos, and explore the latest devices. TWO QUEENS STAND BEFORE US…

We think we speak for everyone when we say …

HOLY SHIT THAT LOOKS SO GOOD.

We can’t exactly say that the world needed yet another movie about these two queens when history’s full of so many others who’ve received far fewer shots at the spotlight. On the other hand, these roles are like Jesus for white guy actors. Every half-generation or so, another crop of them have to take a crack at it. We don’t know if this treatment of the oft-told tale will have anything new to offer but the performances look appropriately amazing and the art direction is making us salivate.

Ladies, start your engines. Because the Oscar race has just begun.

Mary, Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart. Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth 1. Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.

The cast also includes Jack Lowden (Dunkirk, England is Mine), Joe Alwyn (The Sense of an Ending, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk), Martin Compston (Sweet Sixteen, Line of Duty), Gemma Chan (Captain Marvel), Ismael Cordova (The Catch), Ian Hart (The Terror), Adrian Lester (Riviera), James McArdle (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), and Brendan Coyle (Downton Abbey, Me Before You). Also featuring in the cast are David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch) and Guy Pearce (Memento, LA Confidential, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert).

Josie Rourke, artistic director of The Donmar Warehouse, makes her feature directorial debut on the movie. The producers of Mary, Queen of Scots are Working Title co-chairs Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, and Debra Hayward, all Academy Award nominees as producers of Best Picture Oscar nominee Les Misérables.

Beau Willimon, an Academy Award nominee for The Ides of March and Emmy Award nominee for House of Cards, has written the screenplay adaptation. Mary, Queen of Scots is based on John Guy’s acclaimed biography My Heart is My Own: The Life of Mary Queen of Scots.

Mary, Queen of Scots is set for release on December 7, 2018.

Because dammit, beauty just isn’t celebrated enough, kittens.

Alice Eve

A little bit of light Bardot cosplay in the afternoon. We can’t say it’s a bad choice for her, but the skirt and top are both kind of stiff-looking and the shoes are just a bit too heavy. Not really loving that color or print either.

Emma Roberts

Unexpectedly dramatic. Maybe just a bit too nighttime in tone. And the shoes don’t go at all. Despite the quibbles it’s not a bad look at all.

Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera

Can’t really argue with any of that. She looks great.

Jaime King

Those who hang onto our every word know that we aren’t inclined to love – or even like –  an overdesigned black lace dress. And those people will be happy to know that we are continuing that streak with this one. But we’ll say this: given her knack and preferences for wearing somewhat overwrought fashion, this comes pretty close to working.

January Jones

Honey, no. We had some fun looking at your tacky retro cosplay yesterday, but you look like you run a beauty salon out of a trailer.

Lena Dunham

A BIG NO TO ALL THAT.

Melanie Griffith

Miss Melanie, that’s a great little frock for you, even if we think it’s got about three too many prints and a wholly unnecessary bit of foofaraw at the hem. Somehow, the frantic qualities of it really work for you. The scary aviators and clunky-ass shoes, however, do not.

This may not be the most newsworthy Gaga ensemble of all time, but we’re just glad to see she learned her lesson from yesterday and freed up her legs in case she needs to dodge a falling satellite or exploding building. Hey, you never know.

Granted, it’s not like she opted for the most practical of footwear but we figure she’s been sporting the shooves for so long she could probably place in a 100-yard dash while wearing them.

Besides, we’ll always love a cool chick working a Bowie t-shirt, even if she is wearing 20 pounds of leather in a 90-degree weather. Sometimes, a star’s gotta suffer for her beauty.
